L’OREAL INFALLIBLE FRESH WEAR FOUNDATION

Can I just say that if I hear another company that claims to have 24 hour wearability I may just eye-roll into another dimension? It’s not that we, as consumers in the beauty-verse don’t want a long wearing product, but advertising a foundation to be able to be worn for 24 hours isn’t really something I like. For one, no one in their sane, skin loving mind should want to wear a foundation for 24 hours. My pores are literally shrieking at that thought. However, like with any “rules” there are exceptions. Certain people need a foundation that lasts (nurses, commuters, teachers, professionals, people who have customer facing jobs, etc.). Even then, I imagine the most someone would want from a foundation is a 16 hour wear product that withstands everything; pollution, gusts of wind, sweat, hair whipping the face, clothes rubbing the face, meals, kisses, stress. Again, the list goes on.

I mostly find that its the foundations that don’t claim or push the “24 hour wearability” on us that tend to be most successful (for me) at withstanding what life throws at us. Enter the L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation. Real quick, let me put the definition of ‘infallible’ below, just to give you an idea of the beauty claim L’Oreal is trying to make here.

infallible: incapable of making mistakes or being wrong; never failing; always effective.

via google search

You can imagine the hype the foundation has to live up to just by the name. No pressure of anything (actually, LOTS of pressure), but I really expect a lot out of this product. I’m writing this intro before I have applied the product, just to give you guys a sense of what I am feeling.

beauty claims

Via their website,  the product is a “breakthrough longwear foundation with breathable-skin technology”, “provides medium-to-full buildable coverage that lasts all day and allows the skin to breathe”, contains “three oil absorbers resist sweat, water, and transfer”, and “goes on smoothly to give a fresh, healthy-looking complexion that lasts”. It also comes in 30 shades ( a decent shade range, but could still have more shade options for those on the deeper end of the skin spectrum).

packaging

The Packaging is pretty standard. Comes in a square bottle (30ml/1.0 fluid oz) and has a pump, which is great for hygiene. Labels and what not also follow the L’Oreal infallible line, back from the Pro-Glow and the Pro-Matte foundations. The price via the website is $14.99.

I noticed that when I pumped the product out it was not thick, actually more on the runny side, as you can see here.

application

So as you can see, my skin is pretty “clear”, I do have some breakouts on my face (thank you hormones), they tend to be pretty red and noticeable. I also have some pretty noticeable spider veins (?) at the ripe old age of 27 on my cheeks. My skin type is pretty combo — oily in the T-Zone and normal everywhere else, however right now I have been experiencing some dry skin over all because of my face washes, but its been normalizing. Before applying the foundation I moisturized and used a primer, everything will be listed below.

The first layer didn’t really do much for me. Didn’t wow me or even really make me like it. It was just, “yes, this is a foundation.” In fact I kinda hated it. My skin has been doing this odd thing lately where the foundation has to “meld” into it, I’ve yet to find one where hugs the skin and looks like skin. It looked flaky on my face, and immediately clung to my zits and dry areas, despite prepping with two moisturizers, the Angel Veil primer, and some Cover FX Moonlight Glitter Drops.

I soldiered through and the next layer was more satisfying. After that layer I spot concealed and it was more satisfactory. One big pro I noticed was that it did in fact feel very weightless, and I could have built it up more but decided not to. I still got the medium to full coverage. Some skin imperfections peaked through but it wasn’t anything I was too worried about.

I also noticed that it did dry down completely, and that doesn’t always happen for me, there’s usually a tacky feeling to all my foundations, even when I use a light powdering. I don’t like to cake my face down like I used to. I also like that, over the day it looked better, I’m not sure if its my natural oils working with the foundation or if its just one of those foundations that looks better as it sets more over time.

6 hour check in

I feel like at the 6 hour mark it looked okay, more on the good side but you could definitely see more texture peaking through than with natural lighting as opposed to flash.

overall

Overall I would give this product a 7/10. Is it 24 hour? Definitely not. Had I jogged in this or sweat at all, I don’t think it would have withstood that, big point off for that, since it claims to be sweat proof. I DID like that it was extremely skin like in feel and I was able to build it up, had I wanted to (I only used two layers). After finishing my makeup it did look really pretty. It really broke down on me by the end of the night at the 10 hour mark. All of my other face products worked well on top. I do believe had I worn some setting spray it would have lasted longer. I’d probably reach for this for days where I’m running errands for only a few hours. I don’t like that it accentuated these small bumps I have on my face more and more as the day went on. I’ll keep working with it, but I more than likely will mix it with another foundation for more durability. I think if you have really oily skin it could break down more, rather than if you have normal skin it’ll last.

BECCA COSMETICS KHLOE KARDASHIAN BRONZE, BLUSH & GLOW PALETTE

It’s no surprise that the Kardashian sisters are known for their love of makeup. We all know Kylie and her heavily sought after brand, Kylie Cosmetics, continues to have sold out releases and is one of the most debated products on Youtube (the consensus seems to be that you either live for it or you hate it. See: her over priced brush kit). Kim also recently launched her own cosmetics line after a collar with Kylie, and is also a polarizing product line.

So, imagine the beauty community’s surprise when it was revealed in December 2018 that Khloe Kardashian, the youngest of the three, and her best friend, Malika Haqq, were releasing their own limited edition makeup sets each. The full line includes a face kit a piece($44), four lipsticks (two for each gal at $24 each) and Glow Letters in cute X’s, O’s, and hearts($18).

beauty claims

Via Becca’s website, the Bronze, Blush & Glow Palettes claim to be an “Easy to use, all-in-one face palette, just like a photo filter, in real life.” They also state the powder formula is buildable, smoothing, and creates a natural glow. They also state the product has “light diffusing pigments & light reflecting pearl create a lit-from-within glow”.

ingredients

A quick peek at the ingredients lets us know that the first one listed (and usually the ingredient that is the most in the product itself) is talc. Now I in no way shape of form claim to be an expert on talc, but it is a debated product for makeup ingredients due to the fact that inhaling it is bad for your lungs. However, most reputable sites also state that that is only the case if it is talc in its natural form which may contain asbestos, which this does not.

THE PALETTE WITH & WITHOUT FLASH

packaging

One thing I was disappointed about was the packaging, on the website it does a good job of making it seem like its a heavy, luxurious metal casing. However, this is not the case, its actually a plastic type feel, and pretty light. It almost feels cheap. For the price of $44 I would have appreciated a heavier encasing of the product.

swatches

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: GLOW UP, FIERCE, FABULOSITY, KOKO BRONZE

Each powder switched beautifully and definitely had the “lit-from-within” glow that Becca is known for. Full transparency, this is my first ever Becca product, and I picked it one for the color story, and two because I’m actually a fan of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (pleasedontjudgemeitsaguiltypleasure). I prefer the blush “Fierce” to the other blush in the palette, “Fabulosity”, as I feel it is warmer on my skin tone and more peachy, which I look for in a blush. The matte bronzer, “Koko Bronze” is also lovely, applied very smooth and I found that with continued use, I could either build it up slowly or go HAM and have a serious bronze. I shoot for a soft warm look so building it up is my go to. The highlight, “Glow Up” is by far my favorite thing about the palette, I was able to use a ton without adding texture to my skin, and have the nice subtle naked skin glow that seems to be trending these days in the beauty community.

overall

Overall I did like the product and would reward it an 9/10; one point off for the packaging being a little misleading. That being said I will be reaching for this product everytime I do my makeup, certainly for the highlighter as well as the blushes. The matte didn’t quite beat my love of the Hoola Matte Bronzer by Benefit, but if I didn’t have that one, I’d use this one. I also imagine that this will last me a good long while, so if you want to spend the money I really recommend it as an introductory product to Becca.
